Someone with a Liquor store is using ViewTouch. They've requested that they might be able to enter the sale of a bottle of alcohol by simply scanning the barcode on the bottle with a wireless scanner. This would, of course, make it unnecessary for the liquor store to have all the bottles represented as ViewTouch buttons, and such an extension would allow ViewTouch to be used in many other scenarios than Restaurants, Bars and Clubs.
Each unique brand bottle would have to be entered into a ViewTouch PLU - Price Lookup data storage as each menu item button already is. If we follow the same code for recording and reporting the sale of a bottle of alcohol that we're already using for menu items then we have saved ourselves a lot of work !! Recording the sale of a bottle of alcohol isn't different than recording the sale of a taco or margarita, nor the reporting of it.
I've looked into GPL (Gnu Public License) solutions for reading barcodes

linuxbash.sh
and lots more...
ViewTouch does have pretty good functionality for handling inventory already, but for restaurants inventory isn't much used. A liquor store would be a situation where inventory would much more likely be useful. Zbar can be embedded.
There's no rush on this. With AI it, hopefully, ought to be quite interesting. I'll get the customer to pay the developer for this enhancement, enough to buy groceries for a month. I'll provide a wireless scanner.
