October 4 Update: I had asked Ariel to consider updating the touchscreen code, which had not had any fundamental changes since 1995 when we were writing the code in C. Of course, a lot of development has taken place in the touch input code over the past 30 years !! In this beginning of the AI era I had hoped that it would be rather a dramatic enhancement in ViewTouch's touch input code and I am very, very pleased in the dramatic improvements in the ViewTouch touch input code that are now available and which Ariel has introduced into the code base in Pull Request 220. As a result, we will see a significant enhancement in the way the ViewTouch interface is operated. I will attempt to document the enhancement of how ViewTouch is operated as specific improvements are implemented. |

Forty years is a long time for a code project to be alive and vibrant, and for such a project, ViewTouch, to undergo a rebirth at age 40 is amazing by any measure. This rebirth is quite entirely the achievement of two dedicated and highly qualified professionals: Arial and Reinhold. I am grateful to Arial and Reinhold for launching the ViewTouch code base into a new era of Artificial Intelligence. Over the past handful of days ViewTouch has been transitioned from its longstanding use of bitmapped fonts to scalable outline fonts. It's fair to say that this upgrade and the many other upgrades and updates which have taken place in the past three or four days are an unprecedented achievement made possible by their dedication and by the arrival of AI-empowered code development. AI is impacting virtually every aspect of life in 2025 and I am immensely pleased that ViewTouch and all who make use of ViewTouch are also beneficiaries of this new dimension of life. Exciting times lie ahead of us all.
